The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
This book is much more than a story for children. I believe adults would very much appreciate the profoundness of the story told. It makes you question life itself and brings you to a place, where you trace back through life with the eyes of a child. You'll come out of the story, feeling that you have befriended a precious being, the young prince, and you feel proud and great to call him your own. To me, the little prince brings out the child in all of us, the person we lost while trailing through this rather chaotic adulthood. And then comes the day we can stop and look up into the night sky, we wouldn't feel as if the sky is so distant or some place we'd never understand; we'd feel the closeness, connectedness with the colossal sky, because on one of those stars lives the little prince.
Silence (沈黙) by Shusaku Endo 遠藤 周作
For me, Silence is a combination of beauty and pain. This book is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but having said that, I found it to be very encouraging for those who may find it difficult to understand faith or who are struggling with the 'silence of God'. In all, this is a beautiful written piece of work. End has done a brilliant composition of helping us understand the history of Christianity in Japan and one's journey of faith. It speaks about how it feels to be alone in our minds and in the physical world.
